Free Crochet Cat Doll Pattern (Amigurumi Cat Tutorial)

Hello friends! While my sewing machine is still in the shop getting pampered, I thought I'd share this free crochet cat doll pattern. I sell finished crochet cat dolls in my Etsy shop, and I'm also working on outfits for them.  Fun!!

I use size medium weight (#4) yarn.  This amigurumi cat pattern creates a doll approximately 8 to 9 inches tall.

Materials:
Medium weight (#4) yarn - I used "Made with Love - the cottony one" in lychee white by Lion Brand
Crochet hook - 4.0 mm
Stuffing (polyfill)
12mm plastic safety eyes - 2 pcs
Small amount of yarn in black or color of your choice, to embroide nose and whiskers

Optional:
Soft garden wire - if you want the doll to be posable
Adhesive 1 inch felt circles - to seal the bottom of feet and crotch area, and to seal the end of garden wire if using

Abbreviations:
MR = magic ring
CH = chain
SC = single crochet
INC = increase
DEC = decrease
BBL = bobble (2 double crochet in one stitch)
ST = stitch
SLST = slip stitch

Step 1:    make 2 ears

1)    6 SC on MR = 6
2)    (INC, SC) X 3 = 9
3)    (INC, 2 SC) X 3 = 12
4)    (INC, 3 SC) X 3 = 15
5)    (INC, 4 SC) X 3 = 18
       Slst at the end.  Keep some length of yarn which to be used to sew them onto head later.

Step 2:    make 2 arms

1)    5 SC on MR = 5
2)    INC X 5 = 10
3)    (4 SC, INC) X 5 = 12
4)    Create a thumb.  BBL, 10 SC, DEC (skip one sts in the middle) = 10
5-12 (8 rounds))    10 SC = 10
        Slst at the end.  Stuff lightly.

Step 3:    make a tail

1)    6 SC on MR = 6
2)    (INC, SC) X 3 = 9
3-8 (6 rounds))    9 SC = 9
9)    INC, 8 SC = 10
10-15 (6 rounds))    10 SC = 10
        Slst at the end.  Stuff lightly.  Keep some length of yarn which to be used to sew it on later.

Step 4:    make left leg, then right leg, and onto body

1)    6 SC on MR = 6
2)    INC X 6 = 12
3)    (INC, SC) X 6 = 18
4)    18 SC = 18
5)    (4 SC, DEC) X 3 = 15
        Attach a felt circle if using.
6-13 (8 rounds))    15 SC
        Slst at the end.  Stuff lightly.  Do not cut yarn on second leg (right leg) and continue with #14 to              join with the left legs and work upword.

14)    CH 1, 15 SC around left leg, SC on the CH, 15 SC around right leg, 1 SC on CH = 32
15)    3 SC, INC, SC, INC, 19 SC, INC, SC, INC, 4 SC = 36
16)    36 SC = 36
17)    34 SC, 2 CH = 36
18)    2 CH, 34 SC = 36
         These 4 CH create a hole to sew the tail on later.
         Optional - attach a felt circle on the crotch area.  I do this to prevent stuffing and garden wire to               show through.

19-23 (5 rounds))    36 SC = 36
24)    (4 SC, DEC) X 6 = 30
25)    30 SC = 30
26)    Attach arms.  5 SC, 4 SC on inner arm, 11 SC, 4 SC on inner arm, 6 SC = 30
27)    5 SC, 8 SC around outer arm, 11 SC, 8 SC around outer arm, 6 SC = 38

          Sew tail on.  Stuff the body.
          Optional - Add garden wire for structure.  Cut 3 pieces - one for the arms, the other for legs, and              one for the tail.

28)    (DEC, 2 SC) X 9, DEC = 28
29)    (DEC, SC) X 9, DEC = 18
30)    Continue with neck.  18 SC = 18
31)    (SC, INC) X 9 = 27
32)    (2 SC, INC) X 9 = 36
33)    10 SC, INC, SC, INC, SC, INC, 6 SC, INC, SC, INC, SC, INC, 10 SC = 42
         These increases creates subtle puffy cheeks.
34-41 (8 rounds))    42 SC = 42

      Attach safety eyes between R37 and R38, with 6 sts apart.
      Embroide nose, mouth and whiskers.
      Optional - embroide eye lashes before attaching eyes for a girly look!

42)    (4 SC, DEC) X 7 = 35
43)    (3 SC, DEC) X 7 = 28
44)    (2 SC, DEC) X 7 = 21
45)    (SC, DEC) X 7 = 14
